Laura Evans, teaching professor of human development and family studies at Penn State Brandywine, recently received a grant through Penn State’s Opportunity Grant Professional Development Program.
Jami Grosser joined Penn State Brandywine as the new academic advising specialist in December. Coming from Sonoma State University in California as a professional academic adviser, Grosser is looking forward to getting to know Brandywine students and providing them with the tools and support they need to succeed.
Eighteen students, 10 from Penn State Brandywine and eight incarcerated at a nearby county jail, overcame their apprehensions, challenged their ideas about the criminal justice system, and studied public speaking during a semester-long course offered through the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program.

The Brandywine LaunchBox partnered with the Great Valley LaunchBox and Chester County Economic Development Council’s Ideas x Innovation Network to deliver the LionCage Pitch Competition on Friday, Nov. 8, which supported entrepreneurs and innovators across southeastern Pennsylvania. Thirty teams — including two Penn State Brandywine students — pitched in five categories: New Startups, Penn State Students and Alumni, Social Impact Initiatives, Experienced Startups and Young Entrepreneurs. Each category had one winner, who received $5,000; and one honorable mention, who received a plaque. In addition, one team received $10,000 for being “Best of Show.”
Penn State will celebrate its 10th GivingTuesday on Dec. 3, and Penn State Brandywine invites alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends to participate by showing support for the Brandywine LaunchBox, the Penn State Brandywine Emergency Scholarship Fund and the Student Academic Success Center.
Penn State Brandywine's and Penn State Berks' LaunchBoxes collaborated with Penn State Great Valley to hold the Fall 2024 Idea TestLab Pitch Competition on Nov. 4. Six startup business owners participated in the competition.
